Which foods are good for people with diabetes?

My father has had diabetes for many years, and we are always looking for better diet options for him. Can anyone share which foods are particularly good for people with diabetes to help manage their condition?

Lots of fresh veggies, whole grains, and lean protein are best. Avoid sugar completely.

Being careful with diet is so important, I totally get it. For diabetes, generally, low glycemic index foods are recommended. Think millets, dals, and lots of green vegetables. But everyone is different, so a doctor or a dietician's advice is really essential for a personalized plan.

In our family, for diabetes, we always focus on traditional foods like ragi, kambu, and lots of fresh keerai (greens). My mother always says to eat small portions and avoid sweets. But more importantly, please consult a good doctor; they will guide you properly according to your body.

It can feel really scary to navigate food choices with diabetes, I completely understand that anxiety. Just remember that you're not alone. Focus on whole, unprocessed foods like vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. It's a journey of small, consistent steps.

If you're asking this, please make sure you've seen a doctor first to get properly diagnosed and to understand your specific needs. I ignored my symptoms for too long and it just made things worse. For diet, generally, cut out refined carbs and sugar. Focus on high fiber foods like vegetables, dals, and whole grains. Don't self-diagnose!

Dude, for diabetes, my uncle strictly eats complex carbs like oats and brown rice, not white stuff. And loads of sabzi. No sugary drinks or desserts at all. It seems like it's mostly about cutting down on sugar and refined flour.
