When should i be concerned about swollen hands during pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and my hands feel a bit swollen sometimes, especially towards the evening. My mom said it's normal, but I'm still a little worried. When should I be concerned about swollen hands during pregnancy and talk to my doctor?

Oh, I had swollen feet and hands during my third trimester and I freaked out! Is it just normal water retention, or is there a point when it's really serious? Did anyone else worry about preeclampsia with swelling? When did you call the doctor?

Swelling can be common in pregnancy, but it's important to listen to your body and your doctor. If it's sudden, severe, or comes with other symptoms like headache or vision changes, please don't delay. Keep faith, stay calm, and seek medical advice without hesitation.

My gynaecologist explained that mild swelling (edema) in hands and feet is common in late pregnancy. However, if the swelling is sudden, severe, doesn't improve with rest, or is accompanied by other symptoms like severe headache, vision changes (blurry vision, seeing spots), or upper abdominal pain, it could be a sign of preeclampsia. In such cases, immediate medical attention is necessary.

Okay, so normal swelling is one thing, but I would be super concerned if it was sudden, really bad, and especially if I also had a headache that wouldn't go away, or my vision changed, or felt pain in my upper belly. My mind always jumps to the worst, so I'd call my doctor immediately just to be safe. Better to check and be told it's nothing.

Mild swelling in pregnancy is often just the body adapting. However, if the swelling in your hands appears suddenly, becomes very severe, or is accompanied by other signs like blurred vision, a persistent headache, or pain below your ribs, then it is a sign to seek medical advice without delay. Gentle hand and foot exercises can help with normal swelling.
