What type of ham is healthy for weight loss?

I'm trying to follow a high-protein diet for weight loss and looking for new meat options. I saw some ham in the store. What type of ham is considered healthy and good for weight loss?

Honestly, I don't know much about ham, it's not a common food for most of us in India. But I'm guessing for weight loss, you'd want something low fat, low sodium, right? Like maybe lean cuts? I'd have to Google it too.

I totally get it, trying to find healthy options for everything when you're focusing on weight loss. For ham, if you must, go for lean, uncured varieties with low sodium. But in India, fresh chicken or fish are far healthier and more easily available protein choices than processed ham, no? Just a thought.

For managing health, especially like diabetes or weight, processed meats like most hams are generally not ideal. They often contain high sodium and sometimes added sugars. If you're looking for protein, lean chicken, fish, or plant-based proteins are much better choices. Always read labels carefully.

For weight loss, especially if you have other health conditions like thyroid, processed meats including most hams should be limited. They can be high in sodium which isn't good. Fresh, home-cooked proteins are always superior. Always discuss your diet with your doctor or a dietitian, particularly if you have specific health concerns. Regular check-ups help a lot.

My doctor, who is also a nutritionist, always advises caution with processed meats like ham. For weight loss, if consumed, one should look for very lean cuts, typically labeled as 'extra lean' or 'low sodium' ham. However, due to its processed nature and high sodium content, it's generally recommended to choose fresh, unprocessed protein sources like grilled chicken, fish, eggs, or lentils for better weight management and overall health.
