What to eat and what to avoid during pregnancy?

I just found out I'm pregnant and I want to make sure I'm eating the right things for a healthy baby and myself. There's so much advice out there. What are the key foods to eat and what absolutely must be avoided during pregnancy?

Oh, I remember how anxious I was about this during my pregnancy! It feels like everything you eat can affect the baby. Generally, focus on fresh fruits, veggies, lean protein, and whole grains. Avoid raw meat, unpasteurized dairy, and too much caffeine. Just try to eat healthy, don't stress too much.

I'm also trying to understand this for a friend. So, things like soft cheeses are also a no, right? It feels like a lot to keep track of. What about regular Indian sweets, are they generally okay in moderation?

Hey girl, don't stress too much! Just eat ghar ka khana, lots of fresh stuff. Avoid street food, any raw stuff like sushi, and too much caffeine. And really, listen to your body, if something feels off, avoid it. Your doctor will give you the main rules!

Apart from general healthy eating, if you have any underlying conditions like thyroid, make sure you're regularly testing your levels and adjusting your diet as advised by your endocrinologist and gynaecologist. Some foods can affect thyroid meds absorption too. So always keep your doctors in the loop!

As a vegetarian, I focused on lentils, paneer, and lots of greens for protein and iron. Make sure your calcium intake is good too. I'd avoid artificial sweeteners and processed snacks completely. Always check with your gynaecologist about any specific food concerns you have.

For pregnancy, it's mostly about common sense healthy eating. My grandmom said to eat lots of ghee and milk, and it worked for me for strength. But seriously, no raw papaya, no pineapple (especially early on), and limit seafood that's high in mercury. Keep it simple and nutritious.

Oh, I remember how much I panicked over every little thing I ate during my first trimester! But honestly, it's quite simple. Just avoid obvious no-nos like alcohol, smoking, and undercooked foods. Focus on a balanced diet, you don't need to overthink every single meal. Your doctor will guide you best.
