What teas to avoid during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant with my first child, and I love drinking herbal teas, but I'm worried about what's safe. My friend warned me about some teas. Which teas should I definitely avoid during pregnancy to ensure my baby's safety?

Definitely check with your gynae first, but generally, anything with high caffeine like black or green tea in large amounts is often advised against. Also, some herbal teas, especially those with laxative or uterine-stimulating properties like senna, dong quai, or even raspberry leaf in early pregnancy, should be avoided. My health app also flagged licorice root tea. Better safe than sorry!

For pregnant women, it's even more crucial to be careful. While I deal with thyroid, I know that during pregnancy, many herbal teas are not recommended as their effects aren't fully studied or they can interfere. Strong laxative teas, or teas like hibiscus which can affect blood pressure, are often on the 'avoid' list. Always run it past your obstetrician.

During pregnancy, it's best to be super careful with anything herbal, as many haven't been tested for safety. High caffeine teas like strong black tea or some green teas should be limited or avoided. And definitely skip things like senna tea or raspberry leaf (unless advised late in pregnancy by doc) 🚫 Always ask your Gynae! 😊

Oh, this is such a confusing topic! I'm always so worried about what I eat or drink. I heard even some 'natural' teas can be bad, like licorice root or even too much peppermint. Has anyone else felt super paranoid about this? What did your doctor specifically say about herbal teas?

I'm not a doctor, so I can only share my experience. During my pregnancy, my doctor advised me to completely avoid any 'detox' or 'herbal weight loss' teas. She said to stick to very mild, decaffeinated options if at all, and only after consulting her. Better to be cautious with your little one.

Having PCOS, I know how sensitive our bodies can be, and pregnancy takes it to another level. For teas during pregnancy, it's critical to be cautious. Many herbal teas, even seemingly innocent ones, might not be safe. I've read about avoiding teas with high caffeine, or those that could stimulate uterine contractions. Your doctor or midwife is the best person to give you a definitive list, please don't take risks.

When pregnant, especially with conditions like gestational diabetes, every intake matters. Beyond the general advice to limit caffeine, it's important to specifically avoid any 'medicinal' herbal teas unless cleared by your doctor. Some can affect blood sugar or have other unknown effects on the baby. Stick to plain water or very mild, doctor-approved decaf options.
