What is considered extreme weight loss?

I've been trying to lose weight for a while, but I want to do it safely. I've heard about 'extreme weight loss' being unhealthy. What kind of weight loss is considered extreme and should be avoided?

Losing 10-15 kilos very quickly is extreme. While drinking lukewarm water with lemon in the morning helps with healthy weight, such sudden big drops can make you very weak. Please see a good doctor to make sure everything is alright.

My doctor explained that unintended weight loss exceeding 5% of body weight over 6 months is clinically significant and considered extreme. It warrants a systematic investigation of gastrointestinal, endocrine, and metabolic functions to rule out underlying issues.

Losing 8-10 kgs in a couple of months without any gym or dieting is extreme. A simple, practical step is to get a routine blood test and thyroid panel done from a local lab. That will give you clear answers to show to your family doctor.

Losing more than 4-5% of your body weight in a very short time without any active changes is considered extreme. Managing PCOS has taught me that slow and steady weight changes are much safer. Please consult an endocrinologist to check your hormones.

It is completely natural to feel anxious when you see a sudden, big drop on the weighing scale. Losing 5% or more of your weight within a few months unexpectedly is generally flagged as extreme. Please don't worry, just schedule a basic health checkup to find the cause.

I have lost around 5 kgs in the last 6 weeks without changing my diet, and I feel a bit tired all the time. Does this count as extreme weight loss, or is it normal during summers? I am a bit confused.

Please do not ignore this. I had extreme weight loss due to an underlying malabsorption issue that I ignored, which later caused severe nutrient deficiencies and nerve pain. Please consult a specialist immediately for a proper diagnosis.

I know how stressful it is when your clothes suddenly start hanging loose and everyone keeps pointing out how thin you look. It is emotionally draining to deal with rapid weight loss when you don't know why it's happening. Please take care and take one step at a time.
