What is behavioural weight loss?

My doctor recently recommended I look into 'behavioural weight loss' programs. I'm not entirely sure what that means. Can someone explain what behavioural weight loss is and how it differs from just dieting?

It is basically about changing your emotional relationship with food, which is so hard but so necessary. I used to eat whenever I was stressed or lonely, and no diet plan could fix that. Behavioural therapy helped me identify those triggers and finally stop punishing my body, so please don't lose hope, it takes time.

Instead of focusing only on methi water or skipping meals, behavioural weight loss teaches you how to change your daily habits. It helps you recognize when you are actually hungry versus when you are just bored. I found that keeping a food diary and eating slowly helped me much more than any extreme diet trick.

Listen, behavioural weight loss just means fixing your mindset and daily habits slowly instead of going on some crazy crash diet. It's about small changes like sleeping on time, drinking water, and not beating yourself up if you eat a pizza. Just take it one day at a time, yaar, don't stress too much about the scale!

In simple words, it means changing our old habits slowly-slowly so we can stay healthy forever. It teaches us how to control our mind when we see sweets, and how to make walking a daily habit. If we change our lifestyle from inside, our weight will automatically stay in control.

At my age, I have realized that quick weight loss diets are a complete waste of time. Behavioural change is the only thing that works, which means eating mindfully, sleeping well, and walking daily with a peaceful mind. It is a slow process of building self-discipline, so have patience and trust the journey.

While behavioural therapy is excellent for lifestyle changes, please make sure there are no underlying medical issues causing the weight struggles. Problems like thyroid, PCOS, or hormonal imbalances can make weight loss very difficult despite good habits. It is always wise to get a full blood panel done and consult a doctor first.

Basically, it's trying to train your brain not to order biryani at 2 AM when you can't sleep. It focuses on the psychological side of why we eat, like stress-eating during late-night work shifts. Honestly, if I could fix my sleep cycle, half of my bad eating behaviours would probably vanish on their own!
