What cough suppressant is safe during pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester and have a bad cough, but I'm really careful about what I take. My mother told me to be extra cautious. What kind of cough suppressant is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy?

Safe cough suppressant? Man, I just want sleep. But seriously, during pregnancy, even a strong cup of chai is a debate. So definitely ask your doctor. Don't go by what your neighbour's cousin's friend used, lol.

This is a very specific question, especially since many cough syrups have high sugar content which could be an issue for some. Even more so during pregnancy, it’s not just about the active ingredients. A doctor's consultation is non-negotiable here.

Please, do not trust any random advice you get online for medications during pregnancy. Cough suppressants can have strong ingredients. The only safe thing to do is to consult your gynaecologist or a GP and get a proper prescription. Verification is key here.

Pregnancy is a delicate phase where every medication choice needs professional oversight. For a cough suppressant, your gynaecologist is the only reliable source for advice. They will prescribe something safe and effective based on your health condition.

My wife had a challenging time during her second pregnancy, and we learned how careful one needs to be. For any medication, especially something to suppress a cough, consulting your doctor is the only responsible thing to do. Avoid self-medication completely.

I was just looking this up because my cousin is pregnant and had a cough. It seems like the common consensus is that most OTC cough suppressants are a no-go. Only a doctor can confirm what's truly safe. Better to stick to home remedies until then.
