What causes gestational diabetes in pregnant women?

A friend of mine who is pregnant was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and she's quite upset. We're wondering why some pregnant women get this condition. What are the usual causes of gestational diabetes in pregnant women?

When my sugar report came back high during my 24th week, I literally cried thinking I had ruined my baby's future. But my gynecologist explained it's just the placenta's hormones blocking insulin, which is super common. With some regular walks and a diet change, my baby was born perfectly healthy.

Hey there! Gestational diabetes is just a temporary phase caused by pregnancy hormones making your cells a bit stubborn against insulin. Don't worry at all, with a colorful plate of veggies and some light exercises, you can easily handle this.

I was actually researching this online because my sister got diagnosed recently. It turns out the placenta produces hormones like estrogen and cortisol that can interfere with insulin. It seems to happen to even the healthiest people, so it's not due to eating too many sweets before pregnancy.

My bhabhi had this and she was quite stressed. From what I understand, it is just a chemical thing where pregnancy hormones mess with how the body handles sugar. Once the baby is delivered, the sugar levels usually go back to normal almost immediately.

Even very active women can get gestational diabetes due to the high hormone levels from the placenta. If your doctor allows, focus on strength training with light weights or brisk walking for 20 minutes daily. Replacing processed carbs with complex ones like oats and dal makes a huge difference.
