What bmi is safe to lose weight during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant with my first baby, and my doctor suggested I should try to manage my weight a bit. I was wondering what BMI range is considered safe if someone needs to lose weight during pregnancy?

I'm still learning about all this, but I thought losing weight in pregnancy wasn't usually recommended? Is it only safe if your BMI is very high to begin with? I'm a bit confused.

Hmm, this is tricky. From what I've heard, generally, doctors don't recommend losing weight during pregnancy, even if you start with a high BMI. The focus is usually on managing weight gain. Always best to chat with your ob/gyn, they'd know for sure.

I totally get why you'd ask this, it's a common concern for many expectant mothers. Generally, weight loss during pregnancy is not encouraged, as the focus is on providing sufficient nutrients for the baby. If you have a very high BMI, your doctor might guide you on managing weight gain, but active weight loss is usually only under strict medical supervision. Please talk to your gynaecologist.

Listen, this is really something you should discuss with your gynaecologist, not get advice from online forums. Generally, active weight loss during pregnancy isn't recommended. If someone has a very high BMI, doctors might advise on managing *weight gain* in a controlled way, but not typically losing weight. Your doctor will create a safe plan for you and the baby.

Being pregnant comes with so many questions, right? For weight loss during pregnancy, my gynaecologist said it's usually not recommended because the baby needs consistent nutrition. If someone starts with a higher BMI, the focus is more on healthy eating and controlled weight *gain*, not weight *loss*. Always best to chat with your own doctor about your specific situation.
