Is valerian safe during pregnancy?

My friend mentioned using valerian for better sleep, and I'm pregnant and struggling with restless nights. Before I try it, I need to know if valerian is safe to use while pregnant. I want to be very careful.

I track everything on my health apps, and for pregnancy, they always highlight being super cautious with supplements. Valerian isn't something commonly recommended or well-studied in pregnant women. So, cross-check with your gynae before anything!

That's a good question! I've seen valerian being sold for sleep in many places, but I always wondered about its safety for pregnant women. It's confusing because sometimes 'natural' doesn't always mean 'safe' in every situation, especially for moms-to-be.

Please be very careful with anything you consume during pregnancy. My motto is, when in doubt, check with your doctor. Valerian might be natural, but its effects on a developing baby aren't fully understood. Don't take any risks without medical advice.

My gynaecologist specifically advised against using valerian during pregnancy. She explained that while it's considered safe for general use, there isn't sufficient robust research on its effects on fetal development or pregnancy outcomes. It's always best to avoid any unproven supplements.

Hey, pregnancy is stressful enough without worrying about every tiny thing! But for medicines or herbs, don't stress too much, just call your doctor. They will tell you clearly. Don't take anything without their okay, okay?

Look, when you're pregnant, every decision has to be carefully made for two. Valerian might be a natural remedy, but it's not worth the risk if your doctor hasn't approved it. Your gynaecologist is the best person to consult here. Stay calm and just ask them.
