Is there an antidepressant that helps with weight loss?

I've been feeling low lately and my doctor suggested antidepressants, but I'm also worried about weight gain, which I've heard can be a side effect. Are there any antidepressants that can actually help with weight loss, or at least not cause gain?

As someone managing diabetes, I know how hard it is to control weight while taking daily medications. Some psychiatric medicines can definitely increase sugar cravings and cause insulin resistance. Always ask your psychiatrist to prescribe something that won't mess with your blood sugar levels.

I track my daily steps and calorie intake closely, and when I was looking into this, I found out that Bupropion is sometimes known to have a weight-neutral or mild weight-loss effect compared to other SSRIs. However, it affects everyone differently so keeping a log of your symptoms is super important.

When I was on medication, my sweet cravings went through the roof, especially late at night. I read that some people lose weight on Bupropion, but for me, managing my emotional eating patterns with a therapist was what actually helped me feel better.

Haha, if there was a pill that cured both sadness and love for samosas, it would be a bestseller! Jokes aside, most of these medicines tend to do the opposite and make us gain a bit of weight, so definitely talk to your doctor about your concerns before starting.

Honestly, most of the ones I tried actually made me put on weight because they increased my appetite like crazy. Only one specific medicine my doctor switched me to didn't cause weight issues, but I had to strictly watch my diet too. Don't start anything without a doc.

While certain medications like Bupropion are associated with less weight gain or even weight loss, choosing an antidepressant solely for this purpose is medically risky. Antidepressants have complex side effects on heart rate and anxiety levels, so please let a qualified psychiatrist make the decision for you.

These are very strong psychiatric medicines and using them for weight loss is not safe at all. Every antidepressant has different effects on the brain and heart, so you must get a proper consultation. Please don't take any such pills without a specialist's supervision.
