Is sunscreen safe for pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and I want to make sure I'm protecting my skin from the sun. I'm worried about the chemicals in sunscreen. Is it safe to use regular sunscreen during pregnancy, or should I look for specific types?

Along with eating clean organic foods during pregnancy, we also need to be careful about what we put on our skin. Physical sunscreens with zinc oxide are much safer because they don't get absorbed into the bloodstream. Try to avoid chemical ones.

Don't just buy any organic sunscreen recommended by social media influencers. Many ingredients are not fully tested for pregnancy safety. Take your sunscreen tube to your gynaecologist and let them verify the ingredient list for you.

When you are commuting daily to work during pregnancy, skipping sunscreen is not an option because of hormonal pigmentation. I simply switched to a doctor-approved mineral sunscreen. It takes two minutes to apply and keeps my skin protected.

My sister is pregnant right now and her dermatologist strictly told her to use mineral-based sunscreens instead of chemical ones. Apparently, ingredients like oxybenzone are a big no during pregnancy. Better to double check.

I use an app that scans skincare ingredients for safety. For pregnancy, mineral blocks containing titanium dioxide or zinc oxide are flagged as safe. It is super easy to check your products before buying them online.

During my time, we used to wear a soft cotton scarf to cover our face and hands in the hot sun. If you must use modern creams, choose very simple baby-safe ones. Protecting the skin naturally with umbrellas and hats is always best.
