Is soy sauce safe for pregnancy?

My husband and I love sushi and stir-fries, and soy sauce is a must for us. Now that I'm expecting, I'm being extra cautious with everything I consume. Is soy sauce safe for pregnancy, or should I skip it for a few months?

Even though many people eat it, pregnancy is a very sensitive time and everyone's body reacts differently. It is always best to double-check with your gynecologist before adding processed condiments to your daily diet. Better to be safe and get professional advice first.

Yaar, soy sauce is actually fine as long as it is cooked and pasteurized. I used to have crazy cravings for fried rice and my doctor said a little bit of home-cooked soy sauce is totally safe. Just don't eat at unhygienic street stalls during these nine months.

I would get so worried looking at the sodium content on the back of soy sauce bottles when I was pregnant. The high salt can cause blood pressure fluctuations and swelling in your feet, which is so scary. If you really want it, maybe dilute a tiny splash with water just to satisfy your craving safely?

When my wife was expecting, she had strong cravings for savory Chinese dishes. We just bought a high-quality, pasteurized low-sodium soy sauce and cooked everything at home with lots of fresh veggies. It is completely safe in moderation, just focus on keeping the meals healthy and clean.

A little bit of soy sauce now and then won't hurt, but if you have pre-existing thyroid issues like me, keep soy intake minimal. Pregnancy hormones can affect your TSH levels, so make sure to get your thyroid checked regularly and follow up with your doctor for any dosage adjustments.

The main issue with soy sauce is the extremely high sodium content, which can easily trigger high blood pressure. Since gestational hypertension is a real concern during pregnancy, please monitor your blood pressure closely and keep processed sauces to an absolute minimum.
