Is seltzer bad for weight loss?

I'm trying to cut down on sugary drinks to lose weight, and I've started drinking seltzer water instead. Is seltzer actually a good choice for weight loss, or are there hidden downsides?

When my teenager was trying to lose weight, we looked into all kinds of drinks. Seltzer itself isn't bad if it's just plain carbonated water with no sugar or artificial sweeteners. It can be a good substitute for sugary drinks. But if it has added calories or sweeteners, then no, it won't help with weight loss.

As someone with PCOS, I've learned to be really careful about what I consume. Plain seltzer, without any added sugars or artificial flavors, is generally considered fine for weight loss as it's calorie-free. However, some studies suggest that artificial sweeteners in flavored seltzer might trick the body or affect gut flora. Always check the ingredients and listen to your body.

From my experience losing weight, plain seltzer (just carbonated water) is actually a great alternative to sodas and sugary drinks. It gives you that fizzy fix without the calories. The key is to avoid flavored ones with hidden sugars or artificial sweeteners. Stick to plain and add a slice of lemon or cucumber for flavor if you want.

My doctor explained that pure seltzer, which is essentially just carbonated water, contains no calories or sugar, making it a perfectly acceptable beverage for weight loss. The issue arises when seltzers contain added sugars, artificial sweeteners, or high-fructose corn syrup, which can hinder weight loss efforts or even be detrimental to metabolic health. Always read the nutrition label carefully.

Seltzer, haan na? If it's just plain bubbly water, without any added sugar or anything artificial, then it's totally fine. In fact, it can be a good swap for sweet drinks. But if it has all those extra things, then it's like drinking any other sugary drink, ho na? Best to check the label first.

Managing weight with thyroid issues is already a challenge, so every choice matters. Pure seltzer (carbonated water without additives) is generally fine for weight loss because it's calorie-free. However, for any persistent weight concerns or before making significant dietary shifts, especially with thyroid, it's crucial to consult your doctor and ensure regular follow-ups to see what truly works for your body.

Beta, for losing weight, our elders always said eat light and drink plenty of plain water. This seltzer water, if it's just water with bubbles and nothing else, then it cannot be bad. But if they add all sorts of chemicals or sugar, then it is not natural and might not be good for health or weight. Better to drink nimbu pani or plain water.

I can only share my experience, not medical advice. When I was trying to manage my weight, I switched from sodas to plain seltzer. It helped me reduce my sugar intake drastically because I still got the fizz I craved. So for me, it was a positive change, as long as it was just plain seltzer.

Weight loss can be such an emotional journey, and finding what works without feeling deprived is hard. Seltzer, if it's the unflavored, unsweetened kind, can actually feel like a treat and help you cut down on sugary drinks. So it might even be a good thing, a small win. Just make sure it's the right type for you.

As a diabetic, I am very particular about sugar content in everything. Plain seltzer, with zero calories and zero sugar, is perfectly fine for weight loss and blood sugar management. It's a much better alternative to sugary soft drinks. Just make sure you're buying the truly plain, unsweetened kind to avoid hidden sugars or artificial sweeteners that can sometimes impact health.
