Is potato good for weight loss or weight gain?

I'm trying to manage my weight and I'm a bit confused about potatoes. Some people say they are fattening, while others say they can be part of a healthy diet. Are potatoes good for weight loss or weight gain?

In our home, my mother always says potatoes make you gain weight, especially if deep-fried. But my doctor explained that a simple boiled potato actually has good fiber and can keep you full. It really depends on how you cook it and the portion size.

I used to eat boiled potatoes daily thinking it was a healthy starch, but it ended up messing with my insulin levels and actually caused weight gain. Please get a proper checkup with a clinical nutritionist before making potatoes a staple in your diet.

Potatoes are actually quite neutral; they aren't inherently bad. If you boil or bake them, they can fit into a weight loss plan because of their high satiety index. But if you have health conditions, consulting your doctor or a qualified dietitian is the best way to plan.

I lost 12 kgs last year and never completely gave up potatoes. The trick is to boil them, let them cool down to build resistant starch, and avoid adding butter or ghee. If you fry them or make heavy parathas, you will definitely gain weight.

It is all about preparation, guys. Potato chips will obviously make you gain weight, but a single baked potato is perfectly fine for weight loss. Stop demonizing potatoes and look at your overall weekly calorie deficit instead.

For diabetic folks like me, potatoes can be tricky regardless of weight goals because they spike blood glucose fast. I limit them strictly and prefer fiber-rich veggies. If you have borderline sugar, watch out for how much potato you consume.

Honestly, I love potatoes too much to ever quit them! I just switched from aloo paratha to boiled potato salad with cucumber and curd for lunch. It is so filling and hasn't affected my weight loss goals at all.

I totally understand how confusing it is to plan meals when there is so much conflicting advice online. It used to make me so anxious trying to decide if potato is safe or not. Just start with very small portions and see how your body feels.

I am just starting to learn about calories and healthy eating. I always thought potatoes were bad for dieting, but some people say they are okay. Can we eat them with rice, or is that too many carbs for a single meal?

I eat boiled potatoes regularly to fuel my workouts. If you want to gain, mash them with some cream or butter. If you want to lose, just eat them plain boiled and keep an eye on your total daily calories. Simple as that.
