Is pesto good for weight loss?
I'm on a diet to lose some post-pregnancy weight, and I love pesto. Someone told me it's quite high in calories, but also has good fats. Is pesto good for weight loss if I eat it in moderation?

Pesto is tasty, no doubt. But for weight loss, you have to be careful. It's usually made with a lot of olive oil and cheese, which are calorie-dense. A little bit might be okay for flavor, but don't drench your food in it. Moderation is key, like with everything.
Beta, pesto is a foreign dish, it has a lot of oil and nuts. While natural ingredients are good, too much fat is not good for the body, especially if you want to reduce weight. Better to stick to our traditional chutneys, they are lighter and healthier, no? Or just have a very small amount.
Pesto, if made with good quality ingredients, offers healthy fats, but those fats are still high in calories. So, if you're trying to lose weight, measure your portions very carefully. Pairing a tiny bit of pesto with lots of fresh veggies and lean protein, along with your regular exercise, makes more sense than relying on it.
This is exactly what I was wondering! I love pesto, but then I remember how much olive oil and cheese goes into it. It's like, can anything delicious actually be good for weight loss? Seems like it's a 'sometimes food' rather than a 'weight loss staple'.
Pesto tastes amazing but it's quite calorie-dense due to the oil, nuts, and cheese. So, no, it's not inherently 'good' for weight loss if you use it liberally. It can be part of a balanced diet in very small portions, but don't expect it to magically shed kilos.

Been there, tried that. Pesto is a flavor enhancer, not a weight loss food. It's packed with calories from good fats, yes, but calories nonetheless. If you want to use it for weight loss, make your own with less oil, more greens, and maybe nutritional yeast instead of cheese. Otherwise, use it very, very sparingly, like a teaspoon, not a ladle.
I totally get wanting to make healthy food tasty! Pesto is delicious, but it's also high in calories from the olive oil and cheese. So while the basil and pine nuts are healthy, you need to use it sparingly if weight loss is your goal. Maybe dilute it with some lemon juice or veggie broth?
