Is orajel safe in pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and developed a really bad canker sore. I usually use Orajel for these. Is Orajel safe to use during pregnancy, or should I avoid it? My doctor's appointment is next week.

It is generally not recommended because of the benzocaine in it. Please ask your gynecologist before using it.

Avoid using regular Orajel because benzocaine carries risks of methemoglobinemia, which is dangerous during pregnancy. Call your OB-GYN and get a safe, pregnancy-approved prescription for dental pain instead.

It is safer to avoid it during these months. Try doing warm water rinses with salt to ease the pain until you can see your doctor.

According to most pregnancy safety trackers, benzocaine products like Orajel are classified as risky. It is much safer to use plain warm saline gargles or consult your dentist for a pregnancy-safe alternative.

I always lean on the side of caution with any chemicals during pregnancy. I read that local numbing agents can have side effects, so I would highly recommend asking your doctor first rather than self-treating.
