Is non alcoholic wine safe during pregnancy?

I'm trying for a baby and have completely stopped drinking alcohol. I was thinking of having non-alcoholic wine sometimes, but I'm not sure if it's truly safe while trying to conceive or during pregnancy. Any thoughts on this?

Most non-alcoholic wines still contain trace amounts of alcohol up to 0.5% ABV. It is safer to avoid them completely during pregnancy to protect the baby.

My gynecologist clearly advised against non-alcoholic wine because the dealcoholization process is not always 100% complete, leaving behind trace alcohol. She also pointed out that these wines are heavily loaded with preservatives and sugars. She recommended fresh pomegranate juice as a healthier alternative.

My wife was looking into this during her pregnancy because she missed having wine at dinners. We found out that 'dealcoholized' wine still has minor trace alcohol, so we decided not to risk it at all. It's just not worth the constant worry, honestly.

I am in my first trimester and was wondering about this too because we have a family function coming up. Is there any completely 0.0% brand that doctors actually recommend, or is it better to just stick to regular mocktails?

If you track your nutrition on apps like MyFitnessPal, you will see that non-alcoholic wine is often high in empty calories and sugars without any real nutrients. Given the potential trace alcohol risks during pregnancy, tracking your macros with fresh, whole foods is a much better approach.

During pregnancy, maintaining stable blood pressure and avoiding high-sugar processed drinks is very important for maternal health. Non-alcoholic wine can cause blood sugar spikes which affect your overall health. Stick to traditional drinks like coconut water and get regular prenatal checkups.

During both my pregnancies, I avoided these commercial 'zero-alcohol' products entirely. They are mostly overpriced grape juices with chemical preservatives to keep them shelf-stable. If you want a fancy feel, just serve fresh red grape juice in a wine glass with a slice of lime.
