Is nitrofurantoin safe in pregnancy?

I have a urinary tract infection and my doctor prescribed Nitrofurantoin, but I'm in my second trimester. I just want to be sure, is nitrofurantoin safe to take during pregnancy?

My wife was prescribed Nitrofurantoin for a bladder infection when she was six months pregnant. The doctor clearly told us it is safe during the first and second trimesters, but should be avoided right at the end near the delivery date. Definitely confirm the timing with your gynecologist.

I had a terrible UTI during my second trimester and was so scared to take any medicines. My doctor prescribed Nitrofurantoin and assured me it is very commonly used and safe during most of pregnancy. It cleared my infection in a few days and baby was completely fine!

Yes, Nitrofurantoin is widely used to treat UTIs in pregnancy and is safe during the first and second trimesters. However, as my wife's obstetrician explained, it should not be used after 37 weeks or close to delivery because it carries a small risk of affecting the baby's red blood cells. Always let your doctor decide the timing and dose.

Please be very careful with any antibiotics during pregnancy. I had some complications during my third trimester, and our doctor had to carefully change my UTI medications because certain drugs aren't safe close to labor. Please consult your obstetrician immediately to get a safe prescription based on your current week.

I was prescribed Nitrofurantoin for a urinary tract infection during my fifth month of pregnancy. I only took it because my gynecologist specifically wrote it down after looking at my urine culture report. It's always best to follow your own doctor's advice rather than what we share online.

When my partner had a UTI during pregnancy, we logged her symptoms and medication on our health tracker. Nitrofurantoin was prescribed by her doctor and worked really well without any major spikes in her heart rate or nausea. Just ensure you drink plenty of water to help flush out the infection quickly.
