Is mucinex safe during pregnancy?

I'm in my first trimester and have caught a nasty cold with a lot of phlegm. I usually take Mucinex when I get sick. I wanted to double-check if Mucinex is considered safe to use during pregnancy.

Plain Mucinex (guaifenesin) is generally considered safe in the second and third trimesters, but should be avoided in the first. However, you should always consult your OB-GYN before taking any over-the-counter drugs.

Don't stress, but please don't take it on your own. Call your gynecologist's clinic and ask them; they will give you a safe, approved prescription for your cough.

These English medicines are best avoided when you are carrying a baby. Try steam inhalation with a little mint or drink warm ginger water first, and check with your doctor before taking any tablets.

When you are working and pregnant, a cold can really slow you down. But rather than risking over-the-counter Mucinex, a quick call to your doctor for an approved list of medicines is much safer.

I always prefer warm turmeric water and honey for coughs during pregnancy because it's completely safe. If your chest is very congested and you need Mucinex, just get your doctor's okay first.
