Is mayo safe during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and trying to be super careful about food safety. My husband made a sandwich with mayo, and I suddenly started wondering if mayo is safe to eat during pregnancy. Is it?

I used a pregnancy tracker app, and it actually had some good info on this! Generally, commercially produced mayo is safe because it uses pasteurized eggs. But homemade mayo, or mayo from a small deli, might use raw eggs, which carries a salmonella risk. Always check the label for 'pasteurized'.

If it's store-bought, pasteurized mayo, you're probably safe from the mayo monster! 👻 The real danger is if it's homemade with raw eggs, then definitely avoid. No need to stress too much, pregnancy is already enough work!

My sister was pregnant recently, and her doc said branded mayo from the store is okay because eggs are processed. But if someone makes it fresh at home, then no, because of raw eggs. Just check the label for 'pasteurized' and you should be good.

My gynaecologist specifically told me that commercially bought, jarred mayonnaise is safe during pregnancy because it's made with pasteurized eggs. The concern is with homemade mayo or from unverified sources, as raw eggs can pose a risk of salmonella. Always confirm the ingredients, especially the pasteurization status.

Oh, pregnancy diet is such a sensitive topic, I remember trying so many home remedies for different things. For mayo, the main thing is whether the eggs are pasteurized. Store-bought usually are, so it's generally safe. But honestly, if you're worried, a simple homemade hung curd dip with herbs is a wonderful and safe alternative.

Beti, in our times, we just ate simple ghar ka khana. Anything outside, especially with raw eggs, was always avoided during pregnancy. It's better to be careful for the baby. Maybe make a nice dahi dip if you want something creamy, much safer.

I totally panicked about this too when I was pregnant! My doctor told me that as long as it's commercial mayo from a jar, it's fine because the eggs are pasteurized to prevent salmonella. Don't worry, just avoid homemade versions where raw eggs might be used. It's quite common.
