Is kimchi safe for pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and my friend was telling me about how good kimchi is for gut health. But I'm a bit concerned about eating fermented foods during pregnancy. Is kimchi safe to eat while pregnant?

I've been craving kimchi so much lately, but I'm really scared about the unpasteurized bacteria in fermented foods during pregnancy. Did anyone else eat store-bought kimchi while pregnant and feel absolutely fine, or should I avoid it completely?

I completely understand how terrifying it is to eat anything new when you are expecting because you constantly worry about the baby. If it helps, pasteurized kimchi from a reputed brand is generally safe as long as it's fresh and stored properly. Take a deep breath, you are doing great!

With my toddler keeping me awake till 3 AM, I barely remember what I ate during pregnancy! But seriously, if the kimchi is pasteurized and from a clean supermarket, it's fine. Just don't eat those street-side or unbranded local ones unless you want a very upset stomach while already dealing with morning sickness.

Haan, pasteurized waala safe hota hai na, but locally fermented hand-made packages avoid karo during pregnancy. Infection ka darr rehta hai unpasteurized food mein. Better to ask your gynaecologist once before eating.

Please don't take any chances with self-made or unverified foods during pregnancy. I ignored a mild stomach infection once thinking it was normal acidity, and it became quite severe. If you feel any cramping or stomach upset after eating, go to your doctor immediately.

While kimchi has great probiotic benefits, unpasteurized fermented foods carry a small risk of Listeria or other bacterial contamination which can be risky during pregnancy. It is highly recommended to stick to pasteurized commercial brands and consult your obstetrician first.

I read so many articles about fermentation bacteria during pregnancy and it made me so anxious! To be totally safe, you can try cooking the kimchi in a stew or fried rice because heating it thoroughly kills any harmful bacteria while keeping the flavor.
