Is it safe to pop your back during pregnancy?

My back has been really stiff since I got pregnant, and sometimes I feel like I need to 'crack' it to get some relief. My husband usually helps me, but now I'm worried if popping my back could be harmful for the baby. Is it okay to do this during pregnancy?

Honestly, popping your back yourself is probably not the best idea during pregnancy. Your ligaments are already more relaxed, and you could accidentally strain something. I had terrible back pain, and my gynaecologist recommended gentle prenatal yoga stretches or seeing a prenatal chiropractor. It's much safer to have a professional handle it.

Your body is a temple, especially during this sacred time. Treat it gently. If your back hurts, focus on gentle stretches and rest. Instead of forcing it to pop, try calming your body and mind. If the pain persists, seek guidance from someone knowledgeable, perhaps a gentle physiotherapist, but always with your doctor's blessing.

I used to pop my back all the time before pregnancy, so when I couldn't anymore and my back started aching, I really panicked. My doctor said it's normal to feel discomfort because of shifting weight and hormones loosening joints. She just advised against trying to forcefully pop it yourself. Gentle movements and warm compresses were her suggestions.

This is a good question! I'm not pregnant yet but I pop my back often. If it's not safe, what are some really gentle ways to get relief from back discomfort during pregnancy? Are massages okay, or certain stretches? I want to be prepared.

Oh, the back pain is real during pregnancy! I totally get wanting that relief. But my gynaecologist strictly told me not to try popping my back. She said the joints are already lax due to relaxin hormone, and self-manipulation could cause more harm. She suggested gentle pelvic tilts and a warm bath for relief instead.

Beti, your body is changing a lot, so treat it with care. Pushing too hard to pop your back might not be good. Instead, try sitting gently and moving slowly. A warm towel or a small pillow for support can also help. If the pain is much, talk to your doctor. They will tell you what is best.
