Is it common to lose weight in early pregnancy?

I'm in my first trimester and have been feeling very nauseous, which has made me eat less. I've noticed I've actually lost a bit of weight. Is losing weight common in early pregnancy?

I panicked so much when I lost 3 kilos in my first two months because of severe nausea. I kept googling if my baby was safe every single hour. It turns out it is actually quite common, but please talk to your doctor just to reassure your mind.

My wife faced this weight loss issue during her early pregnancy because of severe morning sickness. Along with managing her blood pressure and lifestyle, our doctor kept a close eye on her hydration levels. Regular prenatal checkups are very important to ensure everything stays stable.

My sister went through this last year. She was throwing up constantly in her first trimester and actually lost about 4 kgs. The doctor said it's totally normal as long as she stays hydrated, and she gained it all back in the second trimester.

I lost nearly 3 kgs in my first trimester because even the sight of rotis made me nauseous. My gynac told me not to worry and just focus on small, frequent meals of whatever I could eat, like dry crackers. The weight came back naturally once the second trimester started.

Losing a bit of weight early on because of morning sickness is quite common. You can try chewing on small pieces of ginger or sipping lemon water to ease the nausea. However, if you are unable to keep any fluids down or feel very dizzy, please see a doctor immediately.

Look, don't get scared if you lose a little weight in the first few weeks due to nausea. It is very common and the baby still gets what it needs. Just keep your doctor in the loop and focus on staying hydrated.
