In my days, we survived pregnancies just on ginger water and steam because doctors would yell at us for even asking about cough syrups! Jokes aside, please do not take guaifenesin without asking your doctor first. Better safe than sorry.
It is much better to focus on natural remedies like warm water with honey and lemon or a hot bowl of vegetable soup when you are pregnant. Taking chemical formulations like guaifenesin should only be done if your gynecologist approves it.
Many cough syrups with guaifenesin contain a lot of hidden sugar, which is risky if you have gestational diabetes. Always consult your gynecologist and diabetologist before consuming any such syrups during pregnancy.
I totally get it, dealing with a chesty cough when you are already exhausted from pregnancy is the absolute worst. But please don't take guaifenesin on your own. Call your doc, they will suggest something completely safe for you and the baby.

My wife had a terrible cough during her fifth month and our doctor strictly told us not to use guaifenesin. She suggested steam twice a day and hot warm water instead. Definitely check with your gynecologist first.
