Is glutathione safe during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant with my first baby and very conscious about what I consume. I was taking glutathione for skin brightening before getting pregnant, but I stopped. Is it safe to take during pregnancy, or should I avoid it completely?

Pregnancy itself is like a 9-month health marathon, where everything you eat, drink, or even think about gets scrutinized! Adding 'glutathione' to the mix... that's definitely a question for the experts. No humorous takes on this one, mate. Just get a clear 'yes' or 'no' from your obstetrician. Don't mess with that.

During pregnancy, it is paramount to be extremely cautious with any supplements or medications. While glutathione is a natural antioxidant, the safety and efficacy of *supplemental* glutathione during pregnancy are not extensively studied or universally established. Therefore, it is strongly advised to consult your obstetrician or a maternal-fetal medicine specialist before considering its use. Self-medication can have unforeseen risks.

Just like with thyroid levels during pregnancy which need constant monitoring, taking any supplement, including glutathione, requires extreme caution. The effects on both mother and baby might not be fully understood. Please, consult your gynecologist immediately and get their specific advice. Don't take it without proper medical clearance and regular follow-ups.

I can only speak from my own pregnancy experience and what my doctor told me. My gynecologist was very strict about anything beyond basic prenatal vitamins during pregnancy. She said unless absolutely necessary and prescribed, it's best to avoid all other supplements to prevent any potential risks to the baby. So, I would strongly suggest talking to your own doctor.

For pregnancy, any supplement or medication needs explicit approval from a specialist. Glutathione, despite its antioxidant properties, isn't something to take lightly when pregnant. Please go to a good hospital and speak directly with your obstetrician. They will have the most accurate and safe advice for you and the baby, don't rely on internet information for this.
