Is ciprofloxacin safe in pregnancy?

I'm newly pregnant and have an infection that requires antibiotics. My gynaecologist mentioned Ciprofloxacin, but I'm concerned about medication safety during this time. Is Ciprofloxacin generally safe to take during pregnancy?

Forget medicines, even deciding what to eat in pregnancy is a task, especially with all the cravings! But on a serious note, ciprofloxacin is a proper medicine. You must, must, MUST ask your gynaecologist before taking it. No online advice can replace that!

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic. It's generally not recommended during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary and prescribed by a doctor who knows you're pregnant. Do not self-medicate or rely on internet advice for this.

Time is precious, especially during pregnancy. Don't waste it researching drugs online. Ciprofloxacin can have implications. Call your doctor immediately and get clear guidance. That's the only realistic and safe approach.

Oh, I was prescribed ciprofloxacin once, but my doctor immediately checked if I was pregnant or planning to be, and changed it when I said yes. It's really not advisable. Please call your doctor, they will know what alternative is safe for you.

As a general rule, Ciprofloxacin falls into a category where its use in pregnancy needs careful consideration due to potential risks to the foetus. It should only be used if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk, and only under strict medical supervision. Please consult your OBGYN.

I totally get that you're looking for answers and reassurance. It's scary to take any medicine during pregnancy. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic, and its safety isn't guaranteed in pregnancy. Please, for your peace of mind and health, consult your gynaecologist right away.

It can be really confusing and worrying when you're pregnant and need medication. Ciprofloxacin needs a doctor's careful evaluation for use in pregnancy due to potential risks. Don't carry this emotional burden alone; speak to your Gynae for proper medical advice and support.
