Is cardio or strength training better for weight loss?

I've started going to the gym and I'm a bit confused. For losing weight, should I spend more time on cardio machines or do strength training with weights? I want to make sure I'm doing the most effective workout.

My teenage daughter was struggling with weight issues due to studies stress. We tried a mix of both; she goes for a quick cycle ride and does basic home strength training with water bottles. It really helped her without taking too much time from her studies.

At my age, I have seen so many fitness fads come and go. Honestly, a simple balance of daily brisk walking and basic bodyweight exercises like squats is more than enough. Just stay consistent and don't worry about complicated gym terms.

I personally consult a sports medicine expert at Medanta before starting any heavy strength routine. It is very important to get your posture and physical health checked by a doctor first so you don't end up injuring your back or knees.

I completely understand how stressful it is to read different things online and worry if you are doing the wrong workout. Honestly, both work well. Just start with whatever feels relaxing and doesn't cause you health anxiety. Peace of mind is most important.

Don't just jump into heavy workouts based on gym trainers' advice on social media. Many of them are not certified. Get a proper clinical assessment to see what suits your body's cardiovascular and bone health first.

Please be very careful with strength training. I tried lifting heavy weights for fast weight loss without guidance and ended up with a severe lower back injury. If you have any history of back pain, do not do it without a doctor's clearance.

I agree with using a mix of both. Combining cardio and strength training really gives the best and most lasting results.
