Is azithromycin safe during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and have developed a bad cough and cold, probably a bacterial infection. My doctor prescribed azithromycin. I'm always cautious about medicines during pregnancy, so I wanted to ask, is azithromycin generally considered safe during pregnancy?

Antibiotics during pregnancy should never be self-prescribed. Even though some are considered safe, you must get your symptoms checked by your gynecologist first. Don't take anything without their green light.

Please do not rely on random online forums or internet advice for antibiotic safety during pregnancy. It is a serious matter. Only your doctor can evaluate your condition and prescribe the correct, safe dosage.

For mild cough or throat issues, I always suggest warm turmeric milk or steam. But if you have a bacterial infection where azithromycin is needed, please don't delay and consult your doctor immediately instead of self-treating.

I get so anxious about taking even a paracetamol during pregnancy, so I totally understand your worry. From what I know, doctors do prescribe this antibiotic when needed, but please talk to your OB-GYN to ease your mind.

Hey, don't worry too much. Azithromycin is generally considered safe for pregnant women when there is an active infection that needs clearing. Just give your doctor a quick call to confirm the prescription before taking it.

I was prescribed this for a bad chest infection during my seventh month of pregnancy. It worked well and my doctor assured me it is safe for the baby. Make sure you check with your own doctor before taking it.

I had a severe throat infection last month in my second trimester and my gynaecologist prescribed a 3-day course of azithromycin. I recovered fine and the baby is doing great. But please let your doctor decide the dose.
