Is augmentin safe in pregnancy?

I'm in my second trimester, and my gynaecologist prescribed Augmentin for a mild infection. My mother-in-law is a bit concerned about taking any antibiotics during pregnancy. Is Augmentin considered safe to use when pregnant?

During this beautiful phase of pregnancy, one must be very careful with medicines. Augmentin is sometimes prescribed by doctors, but please do not take any antibiotics without your gynecologist's clear approval. Take care.

Do not rely on online forums to decide if an antibiotic is safe during pregnancy. This involves the baby's health. Only your gynecologist can tell you if Augmentin is necessary and safe for your specific condition.

It is generally considered safe, but any antibiotic can disturb your gut flora, especially during pregnancy. If your doctor prescribes it, make sure to ask if you can take a mild probiotic or curd to keep your digestion smooth.

I was prescribed Augmentin for a severe dental infection during my second trimester. My gynecologist confirmed it is generally considered safe in pregnancy, but the dosage must be strictly monitored by your doctor.

For mild infections, I always suggest warm salt water gargles or steam, but if your doctor has specifically prescribed Augmentin, it is because bacterial infections can also harm the baby. Trust your gynecologist's advice over anything else.

I was reading about antibiotic classifications and saw that Augmentin is usually Category B, meaning it is widely used and generally safe during pregnancy. Still, definitely ask the doctor before taking even one pill.

In our times, we avoided heavy english medicines during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. If you have a fever or infection, go to your doctor immediately. Do not self-medicate with leftover medicines.
