Is any bread good for weight loss?

I'm trying to lose weight and want to make healthier food choices, especially with my breakfast. I love bread, but I hear it's not great for weight loss. Are there any types of bread that are actually okay to eat when you're trying to shed kilos?

My nutritionist explained that no bread is a 'weight loss food' on its own, but whole-grain or sourdough bread is much better because of its lower glycemic index. She advised me to always check the ingredients list to make sure the first item is whole wheat flour and not maida.

I used to completely panic and cut out all bread thinking it was making me fat, but then I realized it's all about portion control. Now I eat two slices of basic brown or multigrain bread with some peanut butter, and I am still losing weight consistently.

Yes, high-fiber breads like 100% whole wheat or rye bread can be part of a weight loss diet as they keep you full for longer.

Practically speaking, just look at the nutritional label instead of the colorful packaging. If a bread has at least 3 grams of fiber per slice, it is decent for your diet. Just don't slather it with too much butter or jam, as that defeats the whole purpose.

Most commercial brown breads in India are just white bread with added caramel color, so be very careful. If you want to lose weight, it is much better to eat homemade ragi or jowar rotis instead of processed bread from the market.
