How to use macros for weight loss?

I'm trying to lose weight and everyone keeps talking about 'macros'. I understand it's about protein, carbs, and fats, but I'm completely lost on how to actually calculate and use them for weight loss. Can anyone explain it simply?

I tried cutting my carbs to almost zero to manage my macros, and it completely messed up my gallbladder and hormonal balance. Please don't blindly copy general ratios you see online. It is always safer to consult a qualified clinical nutritionist or a doctor who can suggest a customized plan based on your blood work.

I am actually very new to this whole fitness thing and it feels a bit confusing. I keep hearing about protein, carbs, and fats but don't know how to divide them. Can anyone suggest a simple app or a basic starting ratio for a vegetarian who just wants to lose some belly fat?

My teenage son was struggling with his weight and got obsessed with counting macros online, which was getting very stressful for him. I helped him simplify it by focusing on just getting enough protein like paneer, dal, and eggs, while keeping daily rice and oil in control. You don't need to be extremely rigid; just keep a balanced plate and encourage some active play.

Hey, I totally get how overwhelming this can be! When I started my weight loss journey, I simply focused on hitting 1.5 grams of protein per kg of my body weight, and then filled the rest of my meals with complex carbs and healthy fats. Don't worry too much about perfection; just tracking your meals honestly for a couple of weeks will give you a great idea.

Before counting all these scientific terms, I tried many weight loss teas and powders but nothing worked. When I actually started looking at my plate, I realized my diet was almost 80% carbs and very little protein. Just lowering your daily roti or rice portion slightly and adding more sprouts or curd can make a big difference without any complicated math.

The easiest way is to download an app like MyFitnessPal or HealthifyMe and log everything you eat. Set your target to a mild calorie deficit, maybe around 300 to 500 calories below maintenance, and try a standard macro split of 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fats. Use a small digital kitchen scale to weigh your food initially so you get accurate data.

My grandmother always said that a balanced plate with seasonal vegetables, sambar, and a small portion of rice is all we need. However, when I consulted my physician for weight issues, he explained how tracking macros helps us ensure we aren't losing muscle mass as we age. He guided me to focus on adding more protein like dal and boiled chana to my daily routine.
