How to not put on weight during pregnancy?

I'm in my first trimester, and my gynaecologist advised me to watch my weight. My friend gained a lot during her pregnancy and then struggled for ages to lose it. What can I do to ensure I don't put on too much weight during pregnancy?

Practicing daily prenatal yoga under a certified guide keeps your body flexible and prevents excess fluid retention. Combined with slow, deep pranayama, it also helps control emotional eating triggered by stress. Just keep your diet simple and sattvik, but always follow your gynecologist's advice.

My doctor monitored my thyroid levels closely during pregnancy because an underactive thyroid can cause sudden weight gain. It is so important to get regular blood tests and keep your medication updated. Never try to manage your weight through self-imposed diets during this critical phase.

I totally get it, seeing your body expand so quickly can feel really scary and overwhelming. But please remember that a significant part of this weight is essential for your little one's growth and health. Try to focus on nourishing yourself with whole foods rather than staring at the scale numbers.

Look, you are carrying a baby, so some weight gain is bound to happen and is actually healthy. Just stop eating for two, which is an old myth, and cut down on heavy sweets and outside food. Keep doing your daily household chores or light walks, and listen to what your doctor tells you.

Our elders always advised eating nutrient-dense foods like ragi kanji and dry fruits, rather than doubling the portion sizes. While their traditional wisdom is excellent, my wife and I trusted our doctor's personalized diet plan the most. Regular clinical checkups ensure both mother and baby stay healthy.
