How to avoid weight gain on amitriptyline?

I've been prescribed Amitriptyline, and I've read online that it can cause weight gain. I'm already struggling to maintain my weight, so I'm worried about this. Is there anything specific I can do to avoid or minimize weight gain while taking it?

Oh, I totally get it! Dealing with a new medication and then worrying about side effects like weight gain is tough. It adds to the stress, right? Just remember to be kind to yourself through this process.

Ram Ram behen! Dawaai se vajan badhna toh hota hai. Humare yahan toh log bolte hain ki subah shaam thoda chalna chahiye aur ghar ka khaana khaana chahiye, bahar ka kam. Par doctor se bhi pooch lena ek baar.

I was on amitriptyline for a while and faced this exact problem. What helped me was having set meal times and not snacking in between. Also, increasing my fibre intake through salads and whole fruits made a big difference in feeling full. And simple walks, even 30 mins, are so important.

Hah, weight gain on medicine, mere saath toh roj ki baat hai! You just trade one problem for another, no? But seriously, try to eat home-cooked food, walk a bit, and maybe cut down on chai-biscuit. And complain to your doctor, maybe they have a magic pill that doesn't make you fluffy!

As someone with thyroid issues, I know how easily weight can fluctuate with medication. I'd suggest regular check-ups with your doctor and maybe monitoring your thyroid levels too, just to be safe, as sometimes symptoms can overlap. Keep good communication with your medical team.

Please be very careful with medicines. I had some unexpected side effects with another drug a few years back, and it was quite unsettling. For weight gain on amitriptyline, definitely talk to your doctor. They might adjust the dose or suggest specific dietary changes. Don't self-medicate or just rely on internet advice.

My doctor explained that amitriptyline can increase appetite for some people. He suggested focusing on high-fiber foods that keep you feeling full longer, like oats and fresh vegetables. Also, being mindful of liquid calories from juices or sodas, as they can add up quickly.
