How much weight loss is too much?

My doctor mentioned that losing too much weight can also be an issue, especially if it's unintentional. How much weight loss is considered 'too much' and potentially a sign of something serious?

Oh god, this is my worry too! I've lost about 3-4 kgs in two months without trying and now I'm super stressed. Is this normal or should I be worried? Did anyone else experience this kind of unexplained weight loss?

My grandmother always says that sudden changes are a signal. She'd tell me to eat proper meals and rest well. But honestly, if it's significant and you're not trying to lose, it's best to check with a doctor once. They can tell you exactly what's happening.

My weight loss strategy is usually 'accidentally forget to eat because I'm watching a really good series.' But seriously, if your clothes are getting loose without you doing anything, your body might be telling you something. Maybe it's just stress, or maybe it wants a vacation... to the doctor's office!

I went through this a few years ago – lost almost 6-7 kgs without changing diet or exercise. Turns out, it was just extreme stress from work. My doc advised me to track my food intake for a week and also notice other symptoms like fatigue or sleep changes. If you notice other things too, definitely get a check-up!

Good question! Generally, doctors consider losing more than 5% of your body weight in 6-12 months without intentional effort as significant and worth investigating. So if you're 70kg, losing more than 3.5kg in that period without trying could be a red flag. Always consult a GP to be safe.

Please, please don't ignore it. I once lost a lot of weight and thought it was just because I was busy, didn't bother to see a doctor for months. Ended up having to deal with a much bigger issue later. If your body is showing a significant change, it's always best to get it checked by a professional without delay. Learn from my mistake.
