How much weight can you lose on liver shrinking diet?

My doctor suggested I go on a 'liver shrinking diet' before a medical procedure. I'm trying to understand what to expect. How much weight can one actually lose by following this kind of diet plan?

A liver shrinking diet, huh? Sounds like another diet where I'll probably lose my mind before I lose weight, especially if it means less chai. Honestly, it's probably mostly water weight and inflammation, not real fat. And I'd probably be too sleepy to notice the difference anyway.

A liver shrinking diet is usually prescribed before bariatric surgery or for fatty liver. It's typically very low in carbs and calories. The initial weight loss is significant, often 5-10% of body weight in a short period, but much of that is water and glycogen. This isn't a general weight loss diet and should only be followed under strict medical supervision, especially for diabetics to manage blood sugar.

Never heard of a 'liver shrinking diet' before, sounds intense! If it's a super strict diet, you'd probably drop a good few kilos initially, but like, that's probably just water, no? Any extreme diet needs a doctor's green light, especially if it's medical. Don't try anything crazy on your own.

Liver shrinking diets are very specific, usually pre-op. The weight loss is rapid, sometimes 5-10 kg in 2-3 weeks, largely due to reducing liver glycogen stores and water. It's not a long-term solution. For sustainable weight loss, consistency with a balanced diet and regular exercise is more realistic for my busy schedule.

Dekho bhai/behen, 'liver shrinking diet' koi fancy trend nahi hai. Yeh serious medical condition ya surgery se pehle doctors dete hain. Jo weight kam hota hai, woh mostly paani aur liver ka fat kam hone se hota hai, real fat loss nahi hota itna jaldi. Aise diets bina doctor ki salaah ke mat karna, dangerous ho sakta hai.

I can't give medical advice, but I've read about these diets. They are generally very low-calorie and low-carb to reduce fat in the liver quickly. People can lose a significant amount of weight, maybe 5-15 pounds, in a short period. But it's usually for a specific medical reason and needs a doctor to supervise.

From my experience, if you're on a liver shrinking diet, typically for a medical reason like fatty liver or pre-surgery, you can lose quite a bit quickly, maybe 5-10 kg in a few weeks. This is mostly due to rapid fluid and glycogen depletion. It's a very restrictive diet and absolutely requires close monitoring by a doctor or dietitian, as it's not meant for casual weight loss.

Liver shrinking diet is not something for general weight loss, thambi. My uncle had fatty liver, and his doctor prescribed something similar. He lost weight, but it was a strict medical diet. Always trust your doctor for such specific diets, not family advice or internet trends. Your liver is too important.
