How much cramping is normal in early pregnancy?

I'm about 6 weeks pregnant and sometimes I feel a slight cramping, almost like period pain. It's not constant or very severe, but it makes me a bit worried. Is some amount of cramping normal in early pregnancy?

Mild, period-like cramping is very common in the first few weeks as your uterus stretches. Just rest as much as you can and try not to worry too much.

Light cramping that comes and goes is completely normal as the embryo implants. However, if the pain becomes severe, is only on one side, or is accompanied by spotting or bleeding, please contact your gynecologist immediately.

My wife had mild cramps in her first trimester, and light 15-minute walks really helped her feel better. Just make sure your doctor has cleared you for light physical activity before you start walking.

I remember having mild cramps during my first pregnancy and being terrified. It turned out to be completely normal, but my doctor told me to always rest and avoid heavy lifting during those weeks.

Please do not ignore severe or sharp cramps. I once brushed off intense pain thinking it was just normal pregnancy stretching, and it turned out to be a major complication. If the pain is sharp or constant, go to the hospital right away.
