How much alcohol can a healthy liver process per hour?

My father often drinks alcohol, and I'm concerned about his liver health. I was wondering, generally speaking, how much alcohol can a healthy liver process per hour?

Listen, on average, the liver can only process about 10 grams of pure alcohol in an hour, which is basically one small drink. Don't try to test your limits or rush it, okay? Keep yourself hydrated, eat something beforehand, and take care of your body.

Please be very careful with this. I used to think my liver was perfectly healthy until I ended up with severe elevated liver enzymes. The general rule is about one standard drink per hour, but honestly, everyone's body reacts differently, so if you feel any persistent heaviness or pain, go get a liver function test immediately.

As someone managing diabetes, I have to be incredibly careful with alcohol because the liver prioritizes clearing alcohol over regulating blood sugar, which can cause dangerous drops. Even if the standard limit is one drink per hour, it is much safer to discuss your personal limits with your specialist.

The liver is a very hard-working organ but it has its limits, processing about one small drink per hour. Just be kind to your system and don't overload it.

I can only share what my uncle's doctor told him after his health scare. He was advised that the liver processes roughly one pint of beer or one small peg of spirit per hour, but exceeding that regularly causes fat build-up over time.

Yeah, it is actually surprisingly slow! It takes about an hour or even more for just one drink to clear out. That is why pacing yourself with water in between drinks is so helpful if you are out with friends.
