How common is colon cancer in women?

A very close relative of mine, a woman, was recently diagnosed with colon cancer, and it really shocked our family. We always thought it was more of a men's health issue. I'm wondering how common colon cancer is specifically among women.

It is actually one of the more common cancers in women, though we don't talk about it as much as breast cancer. I had some major digestive issues that I delayed treating, which led to painful complications later. Please, if you have chronic stomach pain or bleeding, see a specialist immediately.

While it is a known health risk for women as we age, keeping our internal system clean is very helpful. Gentle yoga twisting poses and regular pranayama keep the digestive tract active and healthy. Along with a good lifestyle, do keep in touch with your physician for regular age-related checks.

Look, it is common after a certain age, but there's no need to panic every day, haan. Just make sure the women in the family eat proper fiber and don't keep suffering from chronic constipation silently. If there's any real issue, go see a doctor straight away, na.

I was reading that colon cancer is actually quite common among women, and now I am overthinking every single stomach ache. Does anyone else get super anxious about these things, or is it just me? I feel like scheduling a checkup just to clear my head.

It is a significant health concern, especially for women over 50. When my mother had some gastro concerns, we went to a reputable hospital and the specialist explained the screening guidelines very clearly. I suggest consulting a proper gastroenterologist to get clear, accurate advice.

Yes, it is one of the top cancers affecting women globally and in India. But there is a lot of awareness and testing available now. If you are over 45 or have family history, just get a colonoscopy done regularly; it is as simple as that.

As someone who recently finished treatment for colon cancer, I can tell you it is more common than people think, but it is also highly treatable when caught early. Do not ignore persistent bloating or stool changes. My prompt visit to the doctor literally saved my life.
