Does xanax cause weight loss?

I've been taking Xanax for a few weeks now for my anxiety. I also feel like my appetite has gone down. Could Xanax cause weight loss?

Haha, I wish my anxiety meds would cause some weight loss, but my waistline says otherwise! Usually, these medicines relax you so much that you might actually eat more. But yes, if you were a stress-eater before, calming down might make you eat less and lose a little weight.

Weight loss can sometimes happen if the medication makes you feel slightly nauseous or if you forget to eat due to extra sleepiness. Please make sure you are still eating nutritious, home-cooked vegetarian meals at proper times. Don't skip meals even if you don't feel very hungry.

Actually, weight loss is quite rare with this one, yaar. Most people I know feel a bit lazy and end up gaining instead. If you are dropping weight fast, it might just be because your anxiety is still high, so definitely have a quick chat with your doc.

While weight gain is more frequently discussed with this class of medication, some individuals do experience weight loss due to changes in appetite or reduced stress-eating. Since everyone's chemistry is unique, consulting your prescribing doctor is the best way to understand your body's response.

I ended up losing a lot of weight rapidly when I was on heavy prescriptions, and I assumed it was just a normal side effect. It turned out to be an underlying digestive issue that got ignored. If you are experiencing sudden or significant weight loss, please get a thorough checkup from a doctor.
