Does weight loss lower blood sugar?

My family has a history of diabetes, so I'm always cautious about my sugar levels. I've gained a bit of weight recently and I'm wondering if this will affect my blood sugar. Does losing weight help in lowering blood sugar, or is it more about diet?

Losing body fat is the most effective way to improve insulin sensitivity. Drop some weight and your fasting sugars will improve drastically.

I totally get it, dealing with daily sugar fluctuations is very stressful. But believe me, losing even 3-4 kgs brings a very noticeable drop in sugar readings.
