Does weight loss increase height?

I'm a bit overweight for my age and I'm trying to lose some kilos. One of my friends told me that if I get thinner, I might actually grow taller. Is there any truth to this? Does losing weight increase height, especially for teenagers like me?

This is a complete myth. Height is determined by genetics and bone growth plates which close after puberty; please consult a doctor instead of believing random internet claims.

Haan na, height directly toh nahi badhti weight loss se. But because the body becomes slim, we start looking slightly taller in pictures, actually.

I wish losing weight made me taller, then I could eat more gulab jamuns! Sadly, weight loss only makes you look leaner, which might give an illusion of height, but you stay the same.

I used to feel very conscious about both my weight and my height, so I completely understand where this question comes from. While weight loss won't physically lengthen your bones, it definitely boosts your confidence and posture.

I recently lost 12 kgs. My actual height is exactly the same, but because my posture improved and my belly got flat, my friends say I look taller now.
