Does weight loss happen after menopause?

Since menopause hit a few years ago, my weight has just gone up and up. I've heard some women say they found it easier to lose weight after menopause, while others say it's harder. Can one actually lose weight post-menopause?

It definitely happens, but the approach needs to change a bit. Focusing on strength training to preserve muscle and keeping protein high really helps counter the metabolic slowdown during this phase.

Yes, it is possible. It just takes a little more time and patience than before, so please don't lose hope.

I am just entering this phase and I'm quite nervous about my body changing. Does reducing rice from diet really help, or do we have to take some special hormonal supplements for weight loss?

My mom went through this last year. She was struggling too, but then she started daily morning walks and cut down her evening tea sugar, and she actually lost around 6 kgs.

I have been trying to lose even one kilo for the last six months after my periods stopped, but nothing is moving. Is anyone else also struggling with this stubborn belly fat?

Don't worry beti, I faced the exact same issue ten years ago. It felt impossible initially, but once my hormones settled down and I made walking a daily habit, the weight slowly started coming off.

This is just another beautiful transition stage of your life. Keep your mind calm, practice deep breathing, and nourish your body with wholesome home food; the weight will balance out naturally.

I tried self-dieting during menopause and ended up with severe calcium deficiency and joint pain. Please consult a good gynecologist or nutritionist who can guide you according to your body's current needs.

I know exactly how frustrating and scary it feels when your body suddenly stops responding to diet. I used to panic seeing the scale rise, but please know that this is normal and your body just needs some time to adjust.

With a busy job, managing this is tough but doable. I prep my salads on weekends and take a 15-minute walk after lunch right inside my office building. Consistency in these small habits is key.

I cannot comment on the medical side, but for me personally, cutting down on deep-fried snacks and drinking warm water daily helped me manage my weight post-menopause.

At this age, our digestion becomes a bit slow. Drinking methi water in the morning and avoiding heavy foods after sunset helped many ladies in our family maintain their weight.

Please get your thyroid and vitamin levels checked first. I ignored my weight gain thinking it was just menopause, but it turned out to be severe thyroid issues which became hard to manage later.
