Does united healthcare cover ozempic for weight loss?

My doctor mentioned Ozempic could help with both my diabetes and weight, but it's quite expensive. I have a United Healthcare insurance policy through my husband's company. Do they usually cover this medication for weight loss?

Hey there! Ozempic coverage can be tricky. Usually, United covers it easily for diabetes, but for purely weight loss, you might need a little extra paperwork from your doctor. Good luck! 😊

In my journey, I have found that gentle breathing exercises help manage my appetite naturally. However, if your doctor has suggested Ozempic, do check with United Healthcare as they often require specific medical criteria to be met before approving it.

I go to Max Hospital for my checkups, and the billing department there told me that insurance approvals for Ozempic depend strictly on your lab results. You should ask your consulting endocrinologist to clarify this with the hospital's TPA desk directly.

Honestly, it is so stressful trying to get these things approved. From what I have seen with my colleagues, United usually covers it if your BMI is over a certain limit and you have other health risks, but definitely give them a call first.

I can't say what is medically right for you, but in my case, my United plan did not cover Ozempic because I didn't have a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis. I had to look into other options with my physician.
