Does united healthcare cover glp-1 for weight loss?

My doctor recommended a GLP-1 medication for my weight loss journey, as other methods haven't worked much. I have a United Healthcare policy through my office. Just wanted to check if they cover these kinds of medications for weight management.

Please don't delay getting a proper medical consultation for this. I ignored my metabolic health for years thinking I could manage it on my own and regretted it later. Go see an endocrinologist first to get your blood work done, then ask them about the approval process.

Don't stress too much about the insurance rules right now, buddy. These GLP-1 medications sometimes require prior authorization, meaning your doctor just needs to show it is medically necessary. Take it one step at a time and focus on your health first.

I know how frustrating it is when you're trying your best to lose weight and insurance companies put up so many hurdles. It makes you feel like you are fighting a losing battle. Just know you aren't alone in this struggle, we are all trying to figure this out.

Honestly, it depends on whether your employer chose to include weight loss benefits in your specific policy. My friend has United and her plan covered it, but she had to show proof of trying other lifestyle modifications first. Call the number on the back of your card to check!

My doctor actually explained this to me last month during my checkup. He said United Healthcare often covers GLP-1s like Ozempic if you have type 2 diabetes, but if it is solely for obesity or weight loss, they might require a specific plan rider. You must get your physician to submit a detailed prior authorization form.
