My son needed a similar metabolic treatment, and we realized Tricare is very strict about Mounjaro. They only cover it if you have a documented diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes. If it is purely for weight loss, they will likely ask you to try Wegovy instead, which is covered under different rules.

I was looking into this too because Mounjaro has amazing reviews. Unfortunately, Tricare won't approve Mounjaro unless you have Type 2 diabetes. For weight loss alone, they usually cover Saxenda or Wegovy, so maybe ask your doctor about those options.

Don't believe everything you read on online forums about insurance approvals. You should check the Tricare Formulary Search Tool directly on their website. Currently, Mounjaro is only approved for diabetes, and using it off-label for weight loss won't be covered.
