Does tenncare cover ozempic for weight loss?

I've heard a lot about Ozempic for weight loss from my relatives living abroad. I'm struggling with my weight and wonder if it's available or affordable here. Does any Indian health insurance or scheme cover Ozempic for weight loss?

Based on my research, TennCare usually only covers Ozempic if you have a documented diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes. My doctor mentioned that they rarely approve it solely for weight loss unless there are other severe medical complications.

I always believe in trying portion control and daily active walks before opting for heavy injections. Since TennCare rules are strict and often require pre-authorization, it is best to discuss options with your doctor first.

I totally get it, navigating insurance coverage for weight loss is incredibly frustrating and stressful. Your best bet is to have a candid chat with your doctor to see if they can help get it approved.

Don't get overwhelmed by all the paperwork. Just have your doctor submit a prior authorization form to TennCare explaining your health status, and they will tell you exactly what is covered.

Paying out of pocket for Ozempic is incredibly expensive, so you should call TennCare directly to check their formulary. Sometimes they require you to try cheaper generic weight loss drugs first before they approve the expensive ones.

As a diabetic, I know Ozempic is primarily a diabetes medication that helps manage blood sugar. Insurance companies like TennCare usually reserve coverage for diabetic patients rather than general weight loss.
