Does synthroid cause hair loss in women?

I've been taking Synthroid for my thyroid condition for a few months now. Lately, my hair has been falling out quite a bit, much more than usual. Could Synthroid be causing hair loss in women like me?

Hair loss often happens when your Synthroid dosage is not right, so getting regular thyroid tests is a must. A thyroid panel costs around 300 to 500 rupees in most labs, which is much cheaper than buying expensive hair fall serums. Plan a test every three months to keep your dosage accurate.

Hello, I just started taking thyroid medication last week and I am really scared about losing my hair. Does the hair loss happen immediately, or does it only start if the dose is too high? I would be very grateful if anyone could share their experience.

Actually, it is often the underactive thyroid itself that causes hair thinning, not the Synthroid. When you start the medicine, your body goes through a hormonal shift, which can cause temporary shedding called telogen effluvium. It usually stops once your hormone levels stabilize, so hang in there.

I have been on thyroid medication for six years now. Whenever my dosage is incorrect, my hair starts falling out in clumps. The only solution is to get your T3, T4, and TSH tested regularly and visit your endocrinologist to adjust the mcg. Don't try to self-medicate.

My thyroid medication had me so stressed about hair fall that I almost gave up my favorite parathas! But honestly, eating a protein-rich breakfast with eggs or paneer along with the medicine really helped control the shedding. Don't starve yourself, good food is key.

My teenage daughter had severe hair loss after starting thyroid pills. We were so worried, but her doctor explained that the hair cycle takes a few months to adjust to the new hormone levels. We kept giving her a healthy diet and the hair fall completely stopped in four months.
