Does sweating equal weight loss?

I'm working hard to lose weight and often come out of the gym drenched in sweat. I'm wondering if all this sweating actually equals meaningful weight loss or if it's mostly just water.

No, it absolutely does not. Sweating is just your body's AC turning on to cool down. You are only losing water weight, which returns the moment you drink liquid. Stop focusing on sweat and focus on your calorie burn.

I wish it did, honestly! If sweating meant fat loss, sitting under a non-working fan in hostel during summers would have given me abs by now. Sadly, it is just dehydration.

This is a very common misconception. Physically, sweating only reflects water loss for thermoregulation, not lipid metabolism. For safe and sustainable weight management, consult a certified clinical nutritionist.

I always thought that sweating more during exercise meant I was doing it right. If sweat is just water, does it mean we shouldn't worry about how much we sweat during a workout?

I used to wear thick hoodies to gym to sweat more, and I actually ended up getting heat exhaustion last month. Now I work out in normal breathable clothes. Trust me, the weight loss is the same and you feel much better.
